As they walked out of the library, it suddenly dawned on Omar that three adolescents with demonic features is not what a bus driver is used to seeing on a day to day basis.

"We've got to find a way to get home without anyone seeing us," he said hurriedly sitting behind a nearby stone wall.

"We could say it was for Halloween" Cyrus joined him taking a spliff out of his trouser pocket.

"Its not for two months, you idiot."

"We could just say we were really enthusiastic about it"

Kotomé stood still and seemed maudlin. Her eyes unfocused and a concerned look on her face.

"-The hell Cyrus!" Exclaimed Omar noticing the now lit joint.

"Helps me think... Kotomé are you aright."
Both boys looked up at her now.

"Ko- get down before someone sees those new ears of yours"

"Omar. That isn't your voice" Kotomé finally focussed her eyes on him. what followed was a long and awkward silence finally broken by Omar.

"I have Aphonia, Kotomé, my larynx doesn't work, I'm -I mean -I was a mute. I never had a voice, you know that better than anyone"

"It doesn't sound like you... like you would sound."

"What would you know about sounds, deaf girl?" Cyrus butted in.

"Cyrus, don't be a prick"

"No he's right... what would I know." She sat down next to Omar in a slump.

"Right, we need to get home and we need to cover up first. Cyrus, do you have a bigger pair of sunglasses?"

"Always do!" He said, producing a pair tucked into his shoe.

"And Ko- you can just-"

"I'll hide them under my hair, plus if anyone asks i'll just say I'm a trekkie." She held up her hand her fingers parted in the middle. "Live long and prosper-" she said in a very serious voice. followed by a short giggle.

"Right. That just leaves me... suppose I'll just have to tie a scarf around my face or something... bloody hell I'm gonna look like a terrorist wearing a scarf in June!" He let out a long and depressed sigh.

"What's wrong, Omar?" Said Kotomé softly

"Neither of you have any idea what lengths i went to to get that meeting with the devil, but now I've done it, was it worth it? Now I look disgusting."

"No, Omar you don't"

"I am, now I'm so god-damn ugly I have to hide my face in public... and you know what else... I can't speak in public either. We're F***ed up now, for life. You're father was so close to finding a cure for me too."

"Its like snakes and ladders... I just landed on the snake at square 99 that takes us back to 1, and I've dragged you both with me."
